1937 Buick Series 40 Special

The Buick is quite a good candidate for conversion: a strong, 3,380-lb rear-wheel-drive platform with manual transmission and an intact chassis. The goal? 150-200 horsepower, 200-250 lb-ft of torque, and a real-world range of 100 miles — more than enough for relaxed and quiet city cruising only an EV can deliver.
A true pre-war gem, this 1937 Buick Series 40 Special (trunk back sedan) represents an elegant slice of American automotive history on the verge of a new electric life. With its flowing fenders, upright grille, and unmistakable late-1930s presence, this Buick has stood the test of time — and now its owner is ready to future-proof it for the decades ahead.

Purchased in 2024 from the estate of a collector in New Jersey, the car appears mostly original and solid, showing just light surface corrosion on the frame and no major rust elsewhere. Eric, based in Atlanta, Georgia, has kept it in running condition — the straight-eight 3.8L engine still turns and drives, though the car hasn’t gone beyond 25 mph yet during short drives.

Committed to a professional, turnkey build, Eric prefers a fully managed conversion handled by experts — from engineering to assembly — and is open to upgrading suspension, brakes, wheels and tires to ensure this classic handles its new electric punch with comfort, confidence and safety. Air conditioning and power steering are on the wish list too.
Already an experienced EV household — with a Mustang Mach-E, Chevy Bolt, and multiple Nissan Leafs in the family — Eric knows what makes an electric vehicle practical, efficient, and fun to drive.
