According to Andy, the truck's condition is fair to good, “It does not currently run, but the body is ready for EV conversion and painting.”
He is looking for a shop in Missouri or neighboring states to convert the truck. Once converted, he expects the half-ton to be as powerful as today, with a top speed of 80mph and a range of 110-130 miles.
Andy bought this 1953 Chevrolet 3100 1/2-ton pickup from a County Commissioner in Oklahoma in 1980. He drove it as his primary vehicle for 5+ years (1980-1985), then occasionally while doing some restoration work until ~2003 when it was parked outside in his backyard.
Located in Kansas City, MO, this rear-wheel drive truck is powered by an Inline 6 (236 cu in. 92 HP) coupled with a 3-speed manual transmission. It doesn’t run at this time, but the goal is a complete restoration. It is equipped with drum brakes at all four corners, but the owner, Andy, is considering updating the brakes, suspension, wheels, and tires for the conversion. Mileage is unknown.
Andy began the restoration of the body in 2022. The exterior has been grinded free of rust and painted with Rustoleum primer. The right rear fender needs to be reattached. It is currently missing the front bumper and has some dents on the grill and holes (rusted out or drilled) that will require body work. The truck is currently parked under a newly constructed carport.

He is looking for a shop in Missouri or neighboring states to convert the truck. Once converted, he expects the half-ton to be as powerful as today, with a top speed of 80mph and a range of 110-130 miles. Andy initially prefers to keep the manual transmission but is open to direct drive.
He will use the truck mainly in the city on weekends and charge overnight at home. He is not interested in AC or power steering.
Andy has no preference for the motor or battery (he’s only familiar with lithium-ion).
He will need recommendations and options for sequencing restoration bodywork and painting with EV conversion (is it better to perform the paint job before or after EV conversion?). He’s open to trading ICE parts removed from the vehicle to the converter and employing used electric parts to possibly save costs. Andy is also interested in getting the converter's paint and body work estimates.
No towing requirements.
