This 1966 Ford Mustang coupe, located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is ready for its next chapter—an electric transformation. Originally powered by a 289 V8 paired with a 3-speed manual, the engine is now gone, making way for a clean-slate EV conversion. The car still runs, has four wheel drum brakes, and it’s a no-frills build—no power steering, no A/C.There are no planned upgrades in those areas.

When Robert purchased the Mustang in November, it was already in solid shape with minimal rust. Since then, he’s invested time into its restoration—replacing the floor pans, installing sub frame connectors, torque boxes, and taking it down to bare metal to remove surface rust and old paint. With 59,288 miles on the odometer and no engine under the hood, it’s officially EV-ready.

Robert plans to use the converted Mustang as his daily driver—a fun, reliable city cruiser charged overnight at home. He’s not looking to match the original V8’s performance but is aiming for a well-balanced setup with a top speed around 70 mph and a range of 110–130 miles. After some research, he feels that the NetGain Hyper 9 system paired with repurposed Tesla modules would be a great fit. He’s also keen to retain the manual transmission and clutch for that authentic driving experience—and he’s open to using tested, used components where it makes sense. He also plans to replace the existing gauges with EV-specific instrumentation.
