1974 AMC Javelin
Proposals received : 4
This 1974 AMC Javelin is more than a classic car—it’s a personal time machine. Ordered new from the factory and owned by the same family since 1974.
The owner’s vision is clear: transform this classic into a reliable, enjoyable daily-style driver once again, capable of relaxed New England trips of 2–3 hours. Performance targets are intentionally reasonable—200–250 hp, a top speed of 65–70 mph, and 130–150 miles of real-world range, with overnight charging at home.
The project calls for a premium, turnkey conversion by an experienced shop in Massachusetts or a neighboring state.
This 1974 AMC Javelin is more than a classic car—it’s a personal time machine. Ordered new from the factory and owned by the same family since 1974, it has been part of everyday life for decades, serving as a daily driver until the early 2000s.
Fully restored in 2000 with an engine and transmission overhaul, fresh interior finishes, and a new coat of its original blue paint, the car remains in good to very good condition today, with only localized rust spots that are well documented.

Originally equipped with a 3-speed manual, the Javelin now runs a 5-speed manual transmission after the original gearbox failed a few years ago. The car is road-legal, rear-wheel drive, and weighs approximately 3,200 lbs. It features front disc brakes, rear drums, power steering, and air conditioning—comfort and drivability are non-negotiable for this build.
This is not about chasing extreme horsepower, but about smooth torque, modern reliability, and longevity.
Environmental considerations also play a key role. As original parts become harder to source and regulations tighten, EV conversion offers a way to future-proof the car and ensure it can be passed down to the next generation. The owner’s first experience with electric vehicles dates back to the late 1970s, having driven an early electric station wagon as part of a U.S. Navy energy program—long before EVs were mainstream.
The project calls for a premium, turnkey conversion by an experienced shop in Massachusetts or a neighboring state. Planned upgrades include suspension improvements, brake upgrades, modern dashboard electronics (with a preference for analog styling), full LED lighting, and subtle functional refinements—while keeping the car’s original character fully intact.
This Javelin isn’t being reinvented. It’s being respectfully re-engineered to continue its story—quietly, cleanly, and confidently—for decades to come.
