A shop has mechanically restored the truck. A really nice suspension package was added, performance braking was installed, and it’s been lifted. However, the truck was only driven a few miles and has sat most of the time. It is in very good condition, but the paint could use some updating, the chrome needs some attention, and the interior, although in decent condition, is showing a little age. New carpet and upholstery could really benefit the truck.
The dash was modified with custom digital displays, but he has agreed to return it to something that looks more like a 1986 K10 and can display analog information. The goal is for the truck to look like a restored original.
Earlier this year, Jason met this amazing training program for high school students called MINDDRIVE and wants to include them in as much of the build as possible. They have been doing these EV conversions with kids since 2009. They now need the right kit to match Kelce’s expectations.
Jason wants to retain the 4WD and expects the K10 to be a bit more powerful than today, which is just over 500hp. The 508 V8 Big Block has already been removed. He wants a top speed of 120 mph and a lot of torque.
After its conversion to electric, Jason will use the truck for leisure weekend driving.
"It would be so much fun to build an electric truck for Jason and test it against his own Cybertruck!" say the students.
The suspension and brakes will need to be upgraded to match the weight and performance of the EV power unit. Ideally, the truck would have a 300-mile range and charge in under one hour.
Besides EV conversion, the team of students will restore the interior with modern comforts like AC and power steering. They also want to incorporate a nice sound system, which may be challenging on a square-body 2-door truck. They also need a replica stereo head unit with Bluetooth that looks original but offers modern amenities—if someone wants to contribute to that effort, by all means, they would welcome that.
