This 1987 Suzuki Samurai special edition is powered by a 1.30 L engine coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Samurai has no rust as it spent its whole life in CA and AZ. According to the owner, it's in good stock condition with minor restoration needed. It is very light with a curb weight of 2,094 lbs.
The previous owner re-arched the springs, installed new shocks, and rebuilt the front axle with all new seals and a limited-slip locker. It recently got a new catalytic converter to meet CA emissions requirements and it is currently running well.
The top priority for this conversion project is the driving experience: it should drive like an automatic. The vehicle should be able to reach at least 70mph in one gear; the owner would like to remove the manual transmission and replace with direct drive. Range (at least 75 miles) and power (as powerful as today) are secondary after this top priority.
The Samurai has disc brakes in the front and drums at the rear. The owner is interested in adding AC and power steering if feasible considering other priorities. It would be ideal for the vehicle to retain its 4WD capability, though if other priorities prevent it, the owner is open to dropping that option.
The owner has access to a Level 2 charger and is interested in making the Samurai compatible with fast chargers.
The owner is aiming to maintain the stock appearance, such as by incorporating any new gauges into the existing ones. This is a Special Edition model Samurai that included an extra gauge in the center of the dash, which could be an ideal location to display information such as BMS/ battery level.
The owner is open to reselling all the ICE-related parts removed from the car and would like to use as many used EV parts as possible for the conversion.
There are no towing requirements.
