The vehicle is in Victorville, California and was acquired by Chris in 2021. The car is finished in Nordic Green Mica over black and brown leather upholstery, and features reverse-hinged rear half doors.
Equipment includes AC, power steering, rear spoiler, sport-tuned suspension, and 18″ wheels. It is in very good condition, no rust. Besides the suspension, that was replaced last year; no restoration has been performed on the car by Chris. Wheels and tires will be replaced upon completion and will maintain the same size (18”).
With a curb weight of 3,053 lbs, this Rx-8 is equipped with 4 wheel disc brakes which will require some attention. Transmission must remain automatic/direct as Chris does not drive manual shifters. Paddle shifters can be removed upon completion and replaced by an original Mazda steering wheel.
After the EV conversion, Chris will use his Mazda everyday and expects it to be as powerful as today with a top speed of 130mph and 130-150 miles of range. He doesn’t prefer one type of motor over another, “as long as it fits, without removing the back seats”.
Charging time is very important for Chris. He will mainly use DC fast charging public stations: level 3 onboard charger must be considered by converters. He will also need a Level 2 charging station at home (to be included in proposal). Chris prefers two types of batteries among others: Nissan leaf and BMW i3, although he will consider other batteries such as Tesla’s if the converter demonstrates the weight distribution is optimal.
Chris is ready to ship his Rx-8 to a shop for Conversion in the same state or neighboring states. Proposals that include coaching and EV conversion training are also welcome.
ICE related parts removed during conversion will be sold or traded. Also, Chris prefers to use as many used parts as possible for the conversion.
