2013 Porsche Boxster 981

Thomas wants his Boxster to feel every bit as sharp and responsive as it does today, with the smooth, immediate power delivery of a Tesla Model 3 drivetrain or equivalent system. The target is clear: around 200 to 250 horsepower, matching torque, rear-wheel drive, and a real-world 200 miles of range
This sleek mid-engined roadster, finished in pristine condition and meticulously maintained, is about to begin a new life where instant torque replaces revs, and electrons flow where gasoline once burned.
This Boxster has lived a careful life: garaged every winter, driven only between March and November, and serviced annually by Porsche specialists. Its 2.7-liter flat-six and manual 6-speed transmission have delivered nearly 140,000 km of joy on both city streets and highways, but the goal is not to chase nostalgia — it’s to reinvent it. Thomas wants his Boxster to feel every bit as sharp and responsive as it does today, with the smooth, immediate power delivery of a Tesla Model 3 drivetrain or equivalent system. The target is clear: around 200 to 250 horsepower, matching torque, rear-wheel drive, and a real-world 200 miles of range.
Every detail matters. The conversion must preserve the Boxster’s electric power steering and factory-level comfort, including air conditioning and cabin heating. No unnecessary cosmetic changes, no heavy modifications; just a seamless fusion of Stuttgart craftsmanship and modern electric performance. Charging speed at public charging stations is a top priority, although most of the charging will happen at home with a Level 2 charger.
The car’s condition makes it a dream candidate for conversion — no rust and no need for restoration. Even the tires are fresh, a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS installed this year. The project is guided by practicality as much as passion: used Tesla components are welcome to keep costs aligned with the base price of a Boxster, and the removed parts will be resold to offset the build.
For Thomas, this isn’t just an upgrade; it’s a continuation. As a seasoned EV owner with a Tesla Model Y Long Range — and a long history behind the wheel of Model 3 and Model S — he knows the electrified driving experience intimately. His Boxster conversion is about combining that experience with the timeless joy of an open-top Porsche.
And yet, there’s an awareness that this project captures a moment in time — a personal dream to electrify a classic before Porsche itself makes the 718 EV a reality. Until then, this 981 Boxster stands as the perfect bridge between the analog thrill of the past and the silent, high-voltage precision of the future.
